    Description

     

    The Payroll Director will oversee all aspects of the Firm’s US payroll function, including payroll systems operation, payroll processing, resolution of errors and discrepancies, and long term planning for enhancement of the payroll management function. The Payroll Director is the US Firmwide subject matter expert concerning implementation of both federal and state multi-jurisdictional payroll administration. This position will maintain vendor relationships and determine best practices to fully utilize the payroll system (UltiPro) including workflows and interfaces with other HR and other functions. The Payroll Director will be a member of the Finance team, reporting to the Company Controller, and will supervise two direct reports.

     

    Primary job responsibilities include:

    • Supervise and direct all payroll department functions including payroll processing, reconciling payroll discrepancies, payroll tax filings, wage garnishments, W-2 processing, facilitating internal/external audits, and assisting with reconciliation of GL discrepancies relating to payroll.
    • Oversee the bi-weekly payroll process in conjunction with the Payroll Manager and Payroll Senior Associate for all U.S. operations
    • Develop and maintain thorough and user-friendly documentation of payroll policies, procedures and internal controls, including workflows and interfaces with HR, Benefits and other departments.
    • Ensure proper systems in place for accurate and timely pay, proper recordkeeping and compliance with all regulations for tax filings in all states and other jurisdictions
    • Drive continuous improvement throughout the payroll department that increases productivity and improves service levels
    • Recruit, select, train, develop and manage the performance of the payroll team; provide leadership and clear direction, guidance and coaching aimed at enhancing performance, quality, productivity and team satisfaction
    • Monitor the payroll reporting process (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) to capture key metrics such as volume, timing of resolution and trending issues
    • Have or develop a robust knowledge of our payroll system, currently Ultipro, including new system capabilities, in order to drive system efficiencies, implementations and modifications of technology systems to support payroll needs
    • As necessary, participate in new vendor selections, and lead or participate in any software implementation initiatives involving the payroll function
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies and SOX controls; oversee relationships with internal and external auditors and state and federal agencies
    • Develop and oversee pre- and post-payroll auditing procedures, troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions eliminating the root cause of issues, as needed
    • Develop and maintain effective communication with both national and local Human Resources/Operations colleagues and with employees directly regarding any changes or issues affecting an employee’s compensation
    • Maintain a high level standard of customer service, professionalism, ethics and confidentiality

     

     

     

    Knowledge and Skill Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree required; major in Accounting, Finance or a related degree is preferred;
    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credentials;
    • 10+ years of demonstrated experience with multi-state payroll functions;
    • 5+ years of management experience;
    • UltiPro knowledge and experience strongly preferred;
    • Extensive current knowledge of federal and state laws impacting payroll;
    • Familiar with multi-state payroll processing and tax jurisdictions;
    • Excellent problem solving skills;
    • Analytical, strategic, and critical thinking skills with a focus on driving results;
    • Effective communication skills: verbal, written, listening and presentation;
    • Ability to respond to a changing environment.
